What Do Tobacco Reps Do With Your Information When They Scan Your Drivers License?

Sometimes I get free stuff (lighters, marketing swag, etc) from tobacco reps when I go to the bars or music festivals… Other than sending you crap in the mail, what do they do with your drivers license info after they scan it?
I’ve been told they give their databases to insurance companies so they can charge you higher rates… is this true?

  1. I assure you that the tobacco companies do not give their data to insurance companies. In fact their data bases are some of the most secure of any industry. The tobacco business is very competitive and they are very private with consumer information.

  2. I was only told by the Marlboro rep that they needed to see my license in order to verify my age and was not informed my driver’s license was scanned. I found this is in fact unlawful and am interested in having my information purged from their database. I am currently seeking counsel in order to ensure Marlboro does not use my stolen information for any unauthorized purposes.
