Who Has Successfully Quit Smoking And How Did You Do It?

I want to quit smoking and I am trying to figure out the best way for me. I have read about hypnosis and acupuncture. Has anyone tried that? Chantix is too expensive but I have heard it works well. What about the patch? Anyone done that one? I really need some help.

  2. I quit cold turkey. I’ve tried patches, pills, and it’s more than the ‘nicotine’ receptors. There aren’t specific receptors named ‘nicotine’, they’re just receptors that respond to nicotine. It takes a fortnight without nicotine to get through it.
Quitting is also about dealing with the psychological triggers behind it all. I’ve joined a gym to burn off that extra energy from stress, rather than light a cigarette.

  3. my brother did quit a many year habit through hypnosis. I quit a three pack a day habit 35 years ago cold turkey..it was hard
    But try this.
I gave it to a former boyfriend who smoked thirty years as I was allergic to cigarette smoke and he wanted to quit for me.
I gave him herbpharm avena licorice tincture and he quit and told me he had no cravings for at least 5 days which I found incredible as I had continual cravings and back then they did not put the extra addicting stuff in there.
also see the book healthy healing by Linda rector page for many other suggestions in the stop smoking one (it has tons of help for everything) and worth the money

keep trying..my brother tried many times and eventually succeeded. My dad did to and finally quit..unfortunately, he was diagnosed with lung cancer shortly thereafter and died in a very unpleasant manner so do keep trying..you will and can succeed if you keep motivated and don’t give up..give that compound a try

  4. Read about a slick sounding way that uses your own suggestive power.
Tell yourself you are going to quit on March 10th , U choose the date, but I would suggest near full moon as there would be more clarity of mind at that time.
Keep that up with a positive feeling and reassurance every time you think of it , especially when going to sleep and upon waking , wake slowly move around breath deeply in a calm state and confirm with excitement your anticipated release of the smoking Habit.
In a week or less you will feel a warm anticipation of the release of this
unwanted Habit from your life. You will begin to feel a pending sense of relief that you will at last be free to breath fresh air all day.
this will build until the final day, March Tenth comes you will be elated and you will throw the last Sticks away , maybe even stop on the ugly packet and grind it into the dirt where it belongs. Now your mind and body are free of this forever. . . .. .

  5. Chantix isn’t as good as what some of the claims are. A lot of people I know said it made them really sick because it flushes you out, and if you slip up and smoke, you start vomiting severely. I’ve even seen warnings about it.
Wellbutrin fights the cravings and the depression you get when trying to quit (one of the biggest reasons most women fail is because they have a hard time dealing with the aggressive, yet depressed feelings). It had a horrible effect on me, but that’s because of a bad reaction because of being severely depressed. I know a ton of people (even some who failed with Chantix) who used Wellbutrin to quit.
The patch and gum break me out…and I know some friends and a family member who said neither worked for them. My brother used the gum, and said it worked really good. There’s also a lozenge (if they still make it) that works really good, according to my ex’s brother.
Smoke Away worked really good for me. I quit for almost two years, but stress drove me back, unfortunately.
Right now, I’m using magnets. They go in the acupressure points in your ear that relieve cravings. Some people use them in conjunction with gum or lozenges, but I usually just take along sugar free candies, suckers, or gum, and it seems to help. I eat crunchy snacks like pretzels, carrot sticks, and celery sticks are some of my favorites. The crunchiness seems to ease tension when cravings get bad. Taking a bottle of water with you to sip helps too.
    Hope this helps!

  6. Cold turkey is the only way to go, but first and foremost, you must have the willpower to do it. I smoked cigarettes for over 25 years and quit back in 1986, Even to this day sometimes when I have a beer or two I wouldn’t mind blowing one. Willpower is sooo important. Think what the smoking is doing to your health and also to your family who is exposed to it and your friends that you are around. Your body is a treasure and you are poisoning it and risking lung cancer. You will die much sooner than others of lung cancer. This is no joke!!!! Since I quit smoking my life has changed. I breathe much better and my taste buds have come back. Food is so much better. Life is good without cigarettes. The stupidest thing I ever did was start smoking and the smartest thing I ever did was quit. Please take my advice and good luck to you. I hope you are strong enough to give it up.

  7. i smoked 2 and a half packs of marlboros for 20 years. I got to the point where the smell just grossed me out, always in my hair, on my clothes. BLAH Then one day i saw that commercial on tv with the lady smoking in the car with the windows rolled up and the baby in the back seat crying and coughing. My sister was prenant with twins. I decided i didnt want to be the lady driving that car so i quit cold turkey.
It was one of the hardest things i have ever done….. EVER!!!! I havent smoked for 6 years now, but i think its only fair to warn you that i could and would be happy as a lark if i started smoking again today.I dont think that feeling of wanting nicotine ever goes away. You gotta just keep telling yourself no. Be prepared to have some weigh gain as well. After your taste buds start to come alive again, everything tastes awesome.
I have tried the patch…. didnt work
I have tried that nasty gum….. nasty and didnt work
my mother underwent hyponsis ….didnt work
the only thing i can tell you is your will power is the only way to quit. The power to say no I will not let this beat me, and MEAN IT!
You just need to set a date for yourself and then stick to it. Give yourself a month and then pick an odd day… mine was jan 18. Then just do it. You can do it!!!! I have faith in you!!!

  8. Well, you’re definitely on the right track by asking. If the price doesn’t kill ya the cigs will. I just heard the other day that a recient study showed that the nicotine levels have gone up dramaticly in the last 5 years. What’s up with that ? The tobacco companys deny k nowing anything once again. OK thru with my rant. I’ 58, started at 14, and started seriously trying to quit about 3 years ago. Read all the books, chewed the gum (didn’t stop the craving) what r ya going to do chew the rest of yer life, tried the patch (zoomed my b/p up), acupuncture (waste of my $), hypnotism (worked for about 2 days), Chantex worked, but made me nauseated at first. While I was on it I lost the cravings, but after I finished the regiment the cravings came back after about 3 days. I managed to stay smoke free for about 2 months, then my Dad died, and I gave in. I tried several times before that, never lasting more than a few days. Went on Chantex again, but what are ya going to do?, stay on it for ever ? Started smoking again for about 3 months, then just decided that was enough and quit cold turkey. It has been 6 months and I still have occasional wants, but I’m past the serious second by second die for a cigarette phase. I also read lots of stop smoking books. And isn’t this a kick, I’m a nurse, and see the damage close up nearly every day ! I know at this point I’ll never go back. To much work to quit. They say tobacco addiction is worse that cocane addiction. Good luck, you’ll quit when you really are tired of it controling everything you do.

  9. I quit cold turkey. I’ve never looked back. It’s not easy to get rid of this habit. Wish I could let you meet my mom. She is currently dying of COPD. If you could see her now, and knew her back then it might just be enough to stop you. I think you can find help with Chantix as far as price goes. I can’t vouch for how well it works. My mom used and and for awhile had beaten her habit. Then she started up again and was still on Chantix.

  10. I quit smoking, drinking and many small habits. Free online course!!!

  11. try and make the smell make you sick..
thats what happend to me & it workd..
i took a long puff & inhaled it so much that i chocked my lungs out had a spew then never touched one since..
    its been 1year:)

  12. I quit 2 months ago: it was hard first but now I can’t even stand the smell. I didn’t go through any method, just will power!

  13. I just sorted the reasons out..
Cost- Why spend money on these things when they do absolutely NOTHING for you. NOTHING at all.
Health- All the things you hear about smoking is true. It kills you.
You- Smell like smoke, you look older, you look like a moron to people who are intelligent and don’t smoke.

Plain and simple, there is no reason on this planet to be smoking. None whatsoever. So, just stop. Just a little will-power and you can do it.

It’s all a habit. You NEED to want to quit it. I just had conversations with myself for a few months in a row about quitting…Finally I just hit a point where I had made myself so depressed that I smoked so I just quit one day. That was that.
