Solar Powered Battery Charger ?

I have just found out that some cars will not charge with a solar powered battery charger that plugs in by the cigarette lighter because when your ignition isn’t set to the on position there will be no circuit i should have realized this from the start because i cant light my cigarette unless the key is in the on position but on my solar charger there is a flashing light that flashes on and off but when i plug it in it stops i own a Holden Acclaim vr series 2 any one with knowledge of this cars Electrics and wiring could you please let me know if this is actually seeping power into my battery. thanks.

Mine works fine – however you MUST have the key in the ignition before you start charging – it will keep charging after the key is removed.
It will not work however if you take the key out and then try it. You dont mention what charger you have, but mine also has an LED that indicated when its charging and when its not. I got mine from here:http://www.solarpoweredchargers.com/Alte…
You could try contacting the manufacturer or checking the manual; mine clearly states it does charge when used as i described above.

no power will be going to the battery unless the the key is on, same as when you light your cigarette.the circuit is open when the key is off!

do you have a after market stereo and Amp ? or any aftermarket Equipment
